The TechWaste Recycling Scholarship is a program by TechWaste Recycling for students with the aim of increasing awareness about e-recycling. TechWaste Recycling is a certified electronics recycling company. TechWaste Recycling provides data destruction, equipment destruction, and IT asset disposition services to organizations seeking responsible handling and disposal of electronic assets. Richard Steffens and Isaac Villeneuve founded TechWaste Recycling in 2002 to enable companies and organizations to manage their e-waste downstream inputs and maintain environmental compliance. 

The 2023 TechWaste Recycling Scholarship theme is “How do you make an impact in your community with E-Waste Recycling?”.  Every year all over the world, millions of tons of electronic waste are thrown away. Recycling, or reusing e waste, recovers materials and prevents toxic waste from polluting our groundwater and environment. 

How to Apply for a TechWaste Recycling Scholarship?

The TechWaste Recycling Scholarship will be judged based on the video submitted by applicants in line with e-recycling and its impact on the community. The scholarship will be sent as a Check to the winner’s address. The check will be made out to your School/College. The Scholarship Applications will reopen on August 1st 2023.

1. Write an Original Essay (700 to 2000 words) about your community and ideas on how you would impact Electronic Recycling in your Community.

    • Post the Essay on a Blog website like wordpress.com, medium.com, your school’s website etc.
    • At the end of the essay, please mention TechWaste Recycling and add a link to the Scholarship page (https://www.techwasterecycling.com/scholarship)
    • Send the link to the essay using the form on https://www.techwasterecycling.com/scholarship

2. OR Submit a video with the following.

    • Original content.
    • Between 1-5 minutes long.
    • Uploaded to Youtube or another video-sharing website with a public permission set. 
    • The description of your video must mention TechWaste Recycling and link to https://www.techwasterecycling.com.
    • Video link sent using the form on https://www.techwasterecycling.com/scholarship with your contact information and school contact information.
  • Selection and Notification. Written Essays OR Video submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges who work in and with electronics recycling. The scoring will be a scale of 1-10 based on the following criteria. 
    • Entertainment – 30%
    • Presentation – 30%
    • Relation to Electronics Recycling – 30%
    • Production quality – 10%
